[2026-05-03] Phase B + C — AfterLoss feature entities (9 features + 30 backrefs)¶
- New
entity_class: feature(introduced in Phase A, PR #34) now populated. - Nine new feature entities: afterloss-case, afterloss-commkit, afterloss-information-management, afterloss-funeral-wishes, afterloss-collaboration, afterloss-planning-mode, afterloss-ask, afterloss-export, afterloss-demo.
- 30 concept entities updated with
## AfterLossbackref sections pointing at the relevant feature entity (or two, where the entity sits across multiple features). Phrasing pattern: "see how AfterLoss handles [X]". - 11 procedural guides updated to add the relevant feature entity to their
entities:frontmatter array. - One missing cross-reference: the
tell-us-onceentity referenced in the Phase B+C brief does not currently exist as an entity (only as a guide). CommKit cross-references the guide instead. - No
mkdocs.ymlnav changes in this PR; whether feature entities appear in the top nav is a separate UX decision. - Wiki: 92 → 101 entities.
[2026-05-03] Cluster L — Confirmation in Scotland (1 guide)¶
- New guide: guides/probate-scotland (the Scottish equivalent of probate: the Sheriff Court routes Confirmation applications, the small-estate vs large-estate split at £36,000 gross, Form C1 as the dual-purpose court/HMRC inventory, the with-will/no-will distinction between executor-nominate and executor-dative, dative petitions for no-will large estates, the bond-of-caution insurance requirement, prior rights and legal rights under the Succession (Scotland) Act 1964, and a side-by-side comparison with the England-and-Wales process).
- New entities: confirmation (service — the Scottish equivalent of a Grant of Probate), sheriff-court (authority — the local court that issues confirmation), form-c1 (form — the court/HMRC dual-purpose inventory; revised version for deaths on/after 1 January 2022, the older C5(2006)/C5(SE)(2006) companions retired), bond-of-caution (concept — the insurance requirement for executors-dative, with the post-March-2016 small-estate carve-out), executor-dative (concept — the court-appointed Scottish counterpart of an administrator), prior-rights (concept — automatic spousal/civil-partner intestacy claims at SSI 2011/436 limits: £473,000 dwelling house, £29,000 furniture, £50,000 / £89,000 financial provision), legal-rights (concept — non-defeasible spouse/child/civil-partner shares in moveable estate, with the moveable–heritable distinction), succession-scotland-act-1964 (law — the 1964 Act consolidating Scottish intestacy, prior, and legal rights).
- New captures:
mygov-scot/confirmation,gov-scot/bereavement-what-to-do-after-death,scotcourts/dealing-with-a-deceaseds-estate,scotcourts/guide-to-deceaseds-estate,scotcourts/small-estates,scotcourts/large-estates,scotcourts/court-fees,legislation-gov-uk/succession-scotland-act-1964-contents,legislation-gov-uk/prior-rights-2011-schedule(all 2026-05-03). Two new directories:sources/mygov-scot/andsources/scotcourts/. - New extractors:
mygov-scotandscotcourts, bothselector: mainwith the standard nav/footer/header/cookie/sidebar strips. Approximate at first per the cluster H/I/J/K convention; tightened if the audit cron flags drift. - Manuscript corrections caught during ingest: the source manuscript (
/Volumes/Beelink 1/Afterloss Marketing/guides/21-probate-scotland.md) split confirmation between Form C1 (with will) and a non-existent "Form C2" (without will). Per the SCTS guidance, Form C1 is the only confirmation inventory form; the no-will distinction is procedural (the dative petition court step, plus a generally-required bond of caution), not a different form. The guide replaces the C1/C2 split with the small-estate/large-estate routing decision and the with-will/no-will procedural fork. The manuscript's prior rights figures (£473,667/£29,605/£50,000/£89,200) were also off; the schedule to SSI 2011/436 fixes them at the round numbers (£473,000/£29,000/£50,000/£89,000). - Cross-links added:
guides/how-to-apply-for-probate"Probate in Scotland" stub now points at the new guide with the structural differences (court, form, document) called out inline;guides/intestacy-rulesScotland note now links toentities/prior-rights,entities/legal-rights, and the new guide;guides/do-i-need-probateintro now flags the Scotland equivalent question. - Mkdocs nav: existing "Probate (England & Wales)" section renamed to "Probate" with the new Scotland guide added between
how-to-apply-for-probateandhow-to-get-a-copy-of-a-will. No standalone Scotland section/hub — the wiki frontmatter list and topic taxonomy already carry the jurisdiction signal, and the guide cross-links are doing the discoverability work. CLAUDE.md updated separately (ac08c32) to drop the "needs jurisdiction hubs" framing for v2. - Wiki: 51 → 52 guides, 84 → 92 entities once cluster L merges.
[2026-05-02] Cluster K — faith-specific funerals series (1 hub + 4 guides)¶
- New hub entity:
entities/faith-specific-funerals(concept — the procedural skeleton shared across every UK religious funeral: registration timing across the three jurisdictions, coroner/Procurator Fiscal escalation paths, designated faith sections in council cemeteries, witness charging, repatriation pointer, the burial-vs-cremation split by tradition, the cross-cutting non-faith executor and non-faith attendee guidance). Pulls duplicated procedural content out of the four guides so each guide stays focused on tradition-specific detail. - New guides:
guides/muslim-funeral-customs-uk(ghusl, kafan, the janazah prayer, swift burial under UK law including out-of-hours registrar arrangements, designated Muslim sections in council cemeteries vs dedicated Muslim cemeteries, shroud-only burial where permitted, iddah and 40-day gatherings, illustrative cost ranges with regional variation);guides/jewish-funeral-customs-uk(chevra kadisha and tahara, Shabbat and festival timing constraints, the levayah and kevurah, denominational variation across Orthodox/Masorti/Reform/Liberal/Sephardi practice and burial schemes, structured mourning through aninut/shiva/shloshim/eleven months/yahrzeit/yizkor, the matzevah stone-setting, Adath Yisroel/US/Federation/JJBS/S&P scheme structures);guides/hindu-funeral-traditions-uk(antyesti and the home/crematorium/asthi-visarjan three-stage shape, witness charging, the Ghai judgement and the open-pyre position, sectarian and regional variation across Vaishnav/Shaiva/Smarta/BAPS/ISKCON/Sri Lankan Tamil families, 13-day Terahvin and Pitru Paksha mourning, Ganges immersion vs UK river/sea options);guides/sikh-funeral-traditions-uk(Antam Sanskar, the Five Ks for Amritdhari Sikhs, Kirtan Sohila and Ardas at the cremator, ash-handling under Sikh Rehat Maryada, Akhand Path vs Sehaj Path and the Bhog around day ten, gurdwaras across all four jurisdictions, Sikh Helpline UK). - New entities: 9 concept (
antam-sanskar,antyesti,janazah,tahara,chevra-kadisha,shiva-mourning,khalsa-five-ks,asthi-visarjan,akhand-path), 9 service (muslim-council-of-britain,national-burial-council,muslim-association-of-funeral-directors,board-of-deputies-of-british-jews,united-synagogue-burial-society,jewish-joint-burial-society,hindu-council-uk,sikh-council-uk,network-of-sikh-organisations), 1 law (ghai-judgement— R (Ghai) v Newcastle City Council [2010] EWCA Civ 59). - New captures:
mcb/home,nbc/home,mafd/home,bod/home,theus/burial,jjbs/home,hinducouncil/home,sikhcouncil/home,nsouk/home,liberal-judaism/home,masorti/home,find-case-law/ghai-v-newcastle(all 2026-05-02). Per the cluster K "curated pointers" voice, canonical-source URLs in each guide point at community authorities rather than at gov.uk; the dated procedural facts (5/8-day registration, medical-examiner scrutiny, Procurator Fiscal involvement) cite the existing gov.uk and mygov.scot captures. - New extractors: 12 — one per host (
mcb,nbc,mafd,bod,theus,jjbs,hinducouncil,sikhcouncil,nsouk,liberal-judaism,masorti,find-case-law). All approximate (selectormainorbodywith standard nav/footer/header strips); per the cluster H/I/J convention, dedicated tighter extractors will be added if the audit cron flags drift. - Cross-links added:
guides/burial-rights-uk"Faiths with specific burial requirements" placeholder section now points at the four new guides and the hub;guides/arranging-a-funeralreligious-service paragraph now points at the four guides and the hub. - Two captures dropped during the cluster: BAILII (bot-block 403; replaced with the Find Case Law transcript on caselaw.nationalarchives.gov.uk) and reformjudaism.org.uk (403). National Council of Hindu Temples UK was Cloudflare-blocked; reference retained as plain-text in the Hindu guide and Hindu Council UK entity rather than as its own entity with a broken capture.
- Reform Judaism, Federation of Synagogues, Adath Yisroel Burial Society, S&P Sephardi Community, Vishwa Hindu Parishad UK, BAPS Neasden, Bhaktivedanta Manor, Sikh Helpline UK, the Belfast/Edinburgh/Glasgow congregations, Jewish Bereavement Counselling Service, Jami, Jewish Care, Asian Family Counselling Service, ROOH Health & Wellbeing — all referenced in the guides' "Organisations that can help" sections without dedicated entity pages, by design (the "curated pointers" voice means the canonical home for these is the community body's own site).
- Wiki: 47 → 51 guides, 64 → 84 entities once cluster K merges.
[2026-05-02] Cluster J — specialised funerals (2 guides: burial rights, water cremation)¶
- New guides:
guides/burial-rights-uk(the four UK burial routes — Church of England parish churchyard with the parishioner's legal right of burial, council cemetery, natural/woodland burial ground, burial on private land — plus the exclusive-right-of-burial tenure differences across England/Wales/Scotland/NI, faculty restrictions on headstones, sea burial via the MMO marine licence, scattering of ashes on land, and faith-specific summaries flagged for the in-development series);guides/water-cremation-uk(alkaline hydrolysis legalised in Scotland on 2 March 2026 under SSI 2026/50 + 51 made under the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016, the process and how it differs from flame cremation, expected cost band against the existing options, the planning + SEPA + regulatory authorisations sequence still required before facilities are operational, and the position in England/Wales/NI). - New entities:
entities/parish-burial-right(concept — C of E parishioner right),entities/exclusive-right-of-burial(concept — what families "buy" when they buy a grave; tenure varies by jurisdiction),entities/natural-burial-ground(concept — woodland/green burial sites and the ANBG/Natural Death Centre framework),entities/marine-management-organisation(authority — MMO, the English marine licensing body),entities/burial-at-sea-licence(form — the MMO marine licence required for English sea burial),entities/alkaline-hydrolysis(concept — water cremation),entities/hydrolysis-scotland-regulations-2026(law — SSI 2026/50 + 51),entities/burial-cremation-scotland-act-2016(law — the parent statute under which the 2026 SSIs were made and the source of the new 25-year burial-right tenure). - New captures:
gov-uk/burial-at-sea-licence,legislation-gov-uk/hydrolysis-scotland-regulations-no1-2026,legislation-gov-uk/hydrolysis-scotland-regulations-no2-2026,mygov-scot/burial-cremation-hydrolysis-costs,mygov-scot/arrange-funeral,gov-scot/alkaline-hydrolysis-consultation-analysis(all 2026-05-02). Added a newgov-scotextractor (selectormain#main-content) for the consultation analysis capture. The Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016 capture was reused from cluster G2. - Nav updated: 2 J guides added under "Around the death" — burial-rights-uk and water-cremation-uk slotted near the existing funeral entries.
- Cluster J completes the specialised-funerals work for now. The faith-specific guides (Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, Hindu) are deferred to a future cluster, intended as a coherent series with a shared hub and a "curated pointers" voice that defers religious content to community authorities.
[2026-05-02] Cluster I — post-death gaps (3 guides: BSP, death abroad, pets)¶
- New guides:
guides/bereavement-support-payment(DWP non-means-tested payment for surviving spouses, civil partners, and cohabiting partners with a dependent child since Feb 2023; the two rates higher and standard; the National Insurance test; the three-month claim window that protects the full award; how to claim across Great Britain and NI; interaction with means-tested benefits in the first year);guides/death-abroad(FCDO consulate role, local + UK death registration, repatriation process and cost range, embalming and zinc-lined coffin requirements for air transport, travel insurance and FCDO hardship grants, repatriation vs burial/cremation abroad, UK coroner involvement on return);guides/pets-after-owner-death(immediate first day or two, legal status of pets as personal property, the major UK charity care schemes Cinnamon Trust + Dogs Trust Canine Care Card + Cats Protection Cat Guardians + Blue Cross Pet Peace of Mind + RSPCA Home for Life with the current closure of new pack requests, microchip re-registration, pet insurance continuity, planning-ahead checklist). - New entities:

The existingentities/bereavement-support-paymentwas reused for the BSP guide. - New captures:

The four charity captures reuse thesaifextractor as a starting point — same charity-site shape; dedicated extractors can be added if the audit cron flags drift. - Nav updated: 3 I guides slotted into existing groups —
bereavement-support-paymentunder Financial admin,death-abroadunder Around the death,pets-after-owner-deathunder Property and partners. - Cluster I completes the "post-death gaps" recommendation; remaining un-ingested manuscripts (3): the specialised funerals trio (
burial-rights-uk,water-cremation-uk,muslim-funeral-customs-uk).
[2026-05-02] Cluster H — digital legacy pair (2 guides)¶
- New guides:
guides/digital-legacy(the device-first recovery process, the Property (Digital Assets etc) Act 2025 framework, per-platform routes for Apple/Google/Meta/Microsoft/LinkedIn, cryptocurrency custodial vs non-custodial handling, finding hidden digital assets, cross-border friction with US-headquartered platforms, planning-ahead half-hour checklist);guides/managing-deceased-social-media(per-platform processes for Facebook + Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube + Google, Apple, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Pinterest, plus the legal position on logging in under the Computer Misuse Act 1990 and the limits of UK GDPR). - New entities:

The three platform captures reuse thenhs-ukextractor as a starting point; dedicated extractors may be needed if the audit cron flags them on first run. - Nav updated: 2 H guides added under the existing "Estate planning (before death)" group, slotted between the funeral-related entries and the end-of-life entry.
[2026-05-02] Cluster G2 — estate planning hub + end-of-life (5 guides)¶
- New guides:
guides/estate-planning-checklist(synthesis hub linking to every G1 guide plus practical inventory of financial, reference-number, digital, and people-to-notify lists);guides/end-of-life-planning(advance care planning, ADRT vs ReSPECT vs DNACPR distinction, where to be cared for, SR1 fast-tracked benefits, Carer's Allowance, hospice family support, the conversation);guides/naming-guardians-in-will(Children Act 1989 s.5 + Children (Scotland) Act 1995, when the appointment activates, choosing the right person, separating guardian from trustee);guides/recording-funeral-wishes(legal weight in each jurisdiction, Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016 arrangements on death declaration, what to include, organ donation opt-out across all 4 nations);guides/pensions-inheritance-tax-2027(the April 2027 IHT change to unused DC pension funds — what's in/out of scope, executor responsibility, withholding mechanism, double-taxation issue for deaths after 75). - New entities:

[2026-05-02] Cluster G1 — completes (LPA, ADRT, where-to-keep, DIY-vs-solicitor)¶
- New guides:
guides/lasting-power-of-attorney(E&W LPA + Scotland CPA/WPA + NI EPA, registration, cost, Court-of-Protection alternative);guides/advance-decisions-living-wills(ADRT under Mental Capacity Act 2005 ss.24–26, validity/applicability tests, life-sustaining treatment formalities, Scotland and NI common-law position, interaction with health-and-welfare LPA);guides/where-to-keep-a-will(HMCTS Probate Service deposit, Books of Council and Session, solicitor storage, why a bank box is the wrong place);guides/diy-will-vs-solicitor(five-option comparison from cheap kit to complex solicitor will, when professional help is non-optional). - New entities:

freewillsmonth.org.ukandwillaid.org.ukso the charity-scheme facts inmaking-a-willanddiy-will-vs-solicitorcite a captured source rather than relying on general knowledge (tracked separately).
[2026-05-02] Cluster G1 — making-a-will (1 of 5 estate-planning guides)¶
- New guide:
guides/making-a-will— covers the legal formalities in England and Wales (Wills Act 1837), Scotland (Requirements of Writing Act 1995, plus legal rights), and Northern Ireland; the realistic five options from DIY kit through solicitor; clauses every will needs; choosing executors; storage; and when to update or replace. - New entities:
entities/will,entities/codicil. - New captures:
gov-uk/make-will,gov-uk/store-will-with-probate-service,legislation-gov-uk/wills-act-1837(all 2026-05-02). - Forward references to four sibling guides (lasting-power-of-attorney, advance-decisions-living-wills, where-to-keep-a-will, diy-will-vs-solicitor) deliberately left as plain prose; wikilinks will be added when those guides land in the same cluster.
[2026-04-30] Issue #22 — second batch of recaptures (audit reaches steady state)¶
- Recaptured the remaining 6 of 9 flagged captures. Audit moves from 7 → 1 flagged capture and 12 → 2 flagged pages. The single remaining flag is Royal Mail (permanent —
royalmail.combot-blocks automated capture with HTTP 403; manual transcription remains the source of truth). - All five renamed gov.uk/abi/nidirect/nsandi pages had retired-URL replacements found via site-search; the captured content covers the same facts as the previous (broken) URLs:
gov-uk/form-pa1a→…/publications/apply-for-probate-by-post-if-there-is-not-a-willgov-uk/form-pa1p→…/publications/form-pa1p-apply-for-probate-the-deceased-had-a-willabi/unclaimed-assets→…/data-and-resources/tools-and-resources/tracing-an-insurance-policy/mps/home→…/consumer/faq(the home page itself carries no substantive content)nidirect/help-funeral-costs→…/articles/funeral-expenses-paymentsnsi/what-to-do-when-someone-dies→…/help/manage-money-for-others/customers-who-have-died- Slugs retained on all six for citation stability — the
pathandurlare independent in the manifest. - Citations updated in
entities/form-pa1a,entities/form-pa1p,entities/mailing-preference-service,entities/nsi,entities/unclaimed-assets-register,guides/claiming-life-insurance,guides/notifying-banks-after-death, andguides/redirecting-post-after-death.
[2026-04-30] Issue #22 — first batch of recaptures¶
- Recaptured 3 of the 9 captures flagged on the first audit cycle:
gov-uk/find-a-register-office(URL was live again, original 404 was likely a transient capture failure),saif/home(false positive — SAIF added one nav link, no fact change),gov-uk/statutory-legacy(the manifest URL had been wrong since v1 —/uksi/2023/68/madeis a VAT instrument; corrected to/uksi/2023/758/madewhich is the Administration of Estates Act 1925 (Fixed Net Sum) Order 2023 carrying the £322,000 figure). [source: gov-uk/statutory-legacy-2026-04-30.html] - New captures:
gov-uk/find-a-register-office-2026-04-30.html,gov-uk/statutory-legacy-2026-04-30.html, refreshedsources/saif/home-2026-04-30.html. Old broken captures removed. - Citations updated in
guides/how-to-register-a-death.md,guides/intestacy-rules.md,entities/registrar.md. Audit moves from 10 → 7 flagged captures and 16 → 12 flagged pages. - Remaining 6 flagged captures (
gov-uk/form-pa1a,gov-uk/form-pa1p,abi/unclaimed-assets,mps/home,nidirect/help-funeral-costs,nsi/what-to-do-when-someone-dies) need URL hunting — current URLs all 404. Tracked in issue #22.
[2026-04-30] Audit cron landed (v1.5)¶
- New:
scripts/audit.py,scripts/extractors.yml,sources/manifest.yml,.github/workflows/audit-cron.yml. The cron runs weekly, re-fetches every cited source, and diffs extracted main-content text against the captured snapshot. - Sources moved into the repo at
sources/(5.8MB across 11 buckets, 55 cited captures). The full archive remains on Beelink 2 for uncited and seed material. - Per-host extractors target
main#content,#viewLegContents, article, etc. Diff is whitespace-collapsed text comparison after stripping nav, footer, breadcrumbs, feedback widgets, scripts, and styles. False positives are tolerated; false negatives (missed drift) are the failure mode the cron is designed against. - Clean pages → single PR with frontmatter-only date bumps (CLAUDE.md "PR with auto-merge" path; held in manual-review during a ~2-cycle calibration window before automerge is enabled).
- Flagged pages → tracking issue updated each cycle with diffs.
- 7 captures flagged on first offline run as
needs_recapture: truebecause v1 captured 404 / error pages (gov-uk/find-a-register-office,gov-uk/form-pa1a,gov-uk/form-pa1p,abi/unclaimed-assets,mps/home,nidirect/help-funeral-costs,nsi/what-to-do-when-someone-dies). Royal Mail's bereavement-redirection capture is permanently flagged because royalmail.com bot-blocks automated capture. - Fixed two stale citations in
guides/stopping-benefits-after-death.mdandguides/what-to-do-when-someone-dies.mdthat pointed at a non-existent capture (gov-uk/after-a-death-tell-us-once-overview-2026-04-29.html→gov-uk/tell-us-once-overview-2026-04-29.html). - Manifest hygiene now enforced in tests: every cited capture has a manifest entry, every manifest entry has a file on disk, every named extractor exists.
[2026-04-30] Cluster F guides added: care and work (4 guides)¶
